- Russia has requested a vote on Berbok's candidacy for the post of Chairman of the UN General Assembly

The vote on the candidacy of former German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock for the post of chairman of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (GA) was requested by Russia. This was reported by TASS on June 2, citing UN sources.
"The Russian Federation requested the vote," the agency's interlocutors said.
Burbock was the only candidate for the position and received 167 votes out of a possible 193.
Burbock was elected to the post of Chairman of the UN General Assembly on June 2. Dmitry Polyansky, the first deputy permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the organization, noted that Berbok's candidacy received 167 votes, which is an "indecently low" indicator for a candidate for such a high post. He stressed that traditionally, all regional groups decide to support a candidate unanimously, and it is not subsequently challenged.
