On June 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a meeting with Thomas Fletcher, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), discussed the situation around Ukraine with a focus on depoliticizing the organization's humanitarian efforts.

"During the conversation, a detailed exchange of views was held on the most acute crisis situations. <...> Special attention is paid to the conflict over Ukraine, with an emphasis on depoliticizing the humanitarian efforts of the United Nations," the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It is specified that the parties discussed the crisis in the Middle East, in particular, the conflict between Palestine and Israel, as well as Syria and Lebanon.

In addition, the representatives exchanged views on the functioning of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the organization's humanitarian response system, taking into account the reform of UN-80.

In addition, consultations were held with Sergey Vershinin, the supervising Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, on assistance to Myanmar, Yemen, Sudan and Afghanistan.

It is noted that the UN Deputy Secretary General was also received separately by Alexander Kurenkov, Minister of Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Management of the Russian Federation.

On the same day, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine ended. They lasted more than an hour and were in Russian. Russian Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky said after the meeting that the parties had agreed on the largest exchange of prisoners of war since the beginning of the special military operation. In addition, the Russian Federation suggested that Ukraine declare a two- or three-day truce.
