The head of the Russian delegation, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky confirmed his meeting with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and noted that it played an important role in the preparation of the general session of negotiations.

"There was a meeting. She played an important role in the preparation of the general session," he said on the Rossiya 1 TV channel on June 2.

Prior to this, the Izvestia source reported that the heads of the Medinsky and Umerov delegations held a bilateral meeting before the start of the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul, which predetermined the effective course of further negotiations. The meeting lasted 2.5 hours. Later it became known that the Russian delegation, which participated in the second round of negotiations with Ukraine, flew from Istanbul to Moscow.

The second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul ended earlier in the day. According to a source in Izvestia, they lasted more than an hour and were broadcast in Russian.

After the talks, Medinsky said that Ukraine and Russia had agreed on the largest exchange of prisoners of war since the beginning of the special military operation, which would include at least 1,000 people on each side. In addition, the Russian side suggested that Ukraine declare a two- or three-day truce in certain sectors of the front to collect the bodies of the dead.
