- The political scientist called the main result of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul
The main result of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul was the exchange of memoranda and an agreement to continue the exchange of prisoners of war. This was stated by political scientist Nikolai Topornin on Monday, June 2.
According to the expert, the duration of the negotiations has no effect on their effectiveness.
"You can sign important contracts within an hour, or you can sit for eight hours without any results. True, there are no big results here, but no one expected them. Both sides exchanged memoranda and agreed to continue the exchange. There was no breakthrough," Topornin said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
In his opinion, it did not make much sense for the parties to come to Istanbul, since all the same could be done and solved through intermediaries.
"So far, the negotiations have not brought any new breath to the development of Russian-Ukrainian contacts," the political scientist concluded.
The second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul ended earlier in the day. 360.ru . They lasted more than an hour and were in Russian, RT reports. During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail possible prisoner exchanges.

The Kiev negotiating group is headed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, and its composition has been expanded to 14 people.
