The number of professional income tax payers in Moscow has exceeded two million people. This is more than 15% of the total number of self-employed registered in Russia. This was reported to Izvestia on June 3 by Maria Bagreeva, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city.

"As of May 1, 2025, the number of professional income tax payers in Moscow exceeded two million people. Their total income for the entire duration of this tax regime in Moscow, since January 1, 2019, has amounted to more than 1.7 trillion rubles," Bagreeva stressed.

The professional income tax is popular among citizens who work for themselves without involving employees. Its advantages include ease of registration, automated transfer of income information, as well as the absence of the need for tax reporting and the use of cash registers.

Among the self-employed, the most common types of activities are passenger and freight transportation, shipping, rental housing, advertising and marketing, and construction.

From January to April 2025, the capital's taxpayers issued over 108 million checks to clients for professional income, which is almost four times more than in the same period of 2024, indicating an increase in the business activity of the self—employed in Moscow. The average size of the check at the end of April 2025 was 2,937 rubles.

From January to April 2025, the self-employed transferred 6.5 billion rubles to the Moscow budget, which is 53% more than in the same months last year. Over the entire period of the tax regime, the capital's budget has received more than 45 billion rubles of tax.

Earlier, on April 22, it was reported that the number of individual entrepreneurs in the capital in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to almost 461 thousand. This follows from the data of the Unified Register of Small and Medium-sized Businesses. This figure is 7% more than a year earlier.
