- Bloomberg has learned about the EU's preparations for retaliatory measures against Trump's duties

The European Union (mass media) is preparing for the next round of trade negotiations with the United States and has warned that it may accelerate retaliatory measures if the head of the White House, Donald Trump, follows through on his threats to impose duties. This was reported by Bloomberg on June 2.
European Commission (EC) spokesman Olof Gill noted that the commission "has always been clear about its readiness to act in defense of the interests of the EU, protecting our workers, consumers and industry."
"If a mutually acceptable solution is not reached, both existing and possible additional EU countermeasures will automatically enter into force on July 14 or earlier, if circumstances so require," he said.
He also stressed that the EC's priority is to provide space for negotiations, and reducing duties remains a long-term goal.
The head of the EU Trade Mission, Maros Sefcovic, is expected to meet with U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer in Paris on June 4, and a group of commission representatives is heading to Washington to continue technical negotiations.
Donald Trump had previously threatened to impose import duties of 50% on the European Union due to the lack of progress. He later postponed the entry into force of this decision.
