Tehran is preparing to reject Washington's proposal on the Iranian nuclear program, a senior Iranian diplomat told Reuters on June 2.

"Iran is preparing a negative response to the US proposal, which can be interpreted as a rejection of the American proposal," the agency quoted the source as saying.

According to the source, in the proposal of the American side, "the US position on uranium enrichment on Iranian soil remains unchanged." There is also no clear position regarding the lifting of US sanctions. At the same time, the White House insists that Tehran should accept the written proposal sent to it.

The Iranian ISNA news agency also noted that the US conditions on the Iranian nuclear program are very far from acceptable for concluding a deal.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagai said earlier on June 2 that the lifting of US sanctions against Iran is a "fundamental element" of cooperation between the two countries. He also commented on the attempt of the US Congress to adopt a resolution on the imposition of sanctions against Iran, calling it a clear contradiction.

The US proposal for a new nuclear deal was presented to Iran on Saturday, May 31, by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, who was on a short visit to Tehran and acted as a mediator in nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington. As The New York Times reported, the United States sent Iran its first official proposal for a nuclear deal at a time when a significant increase in the country's uranium reserves was reported at a UN meeting. The document calls for an end to uranium enrichment and proposes the creation of a temporary association of Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States for the production of nuclear energy.

On May 30, US President Donald Trump announced the imminent conclusion of an agreement on a nuclear deal with Iran. He added that Tehran cannot have nuclear weapons.
