During the second round of negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, it is expected to consider the issue of a meeting of the leaders of the countries. This was stated on June 2 by the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Hakan Fidan, before the start of the negotiation process.

"It is also necessary to prepare the work for the meetings of the leaders. Regular contacts between the parties lead to mutual trust," Fidan said.

He also stressed that "very important steps" had been taken during the first round of negotiations. Fidan noted that, in accordance with the previously reached agreement, the delegations came together again, which "demonstrated their readiness for mutual cooperation."

Fidan thanked the heads and members of the delegations, expressing hope that the negotiations would bring good results for the peoples of the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine started in Istanbul. The Russian delegation includes Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Igor Kostyukov, Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin. The Kiev negotiating group is headed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, and its composition has been expanded to 14 people.
