Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, spoke in favor of a complete ban on vaping in the country during the strategic session of the Russian Retail Week on June 2.

"My personal position is that bans and restrictions, of course, cannot regulate everything in the world, but vapes are probably an exception for me personally. I am personally in favor of a total ban," he said.

The minister noted that, as a father of many children, he sees which audience these products are aimed at and how they are advertised. According to him, age restrictions do not always work effectively.

"I cannot say how high-quality these products are, or what long-term health effects they have. I'm not a doctor, but apparently they're not very good," Alikhanov added.

On January 28, the Federation Council approved a law on fines of up to 2 million rubles for selling vapes and tobacco to children. In case of non-compliance with restrictions on the sale of tobacco products by retail workers, a fine of 10 thousand to 20 thousand rubles is provided for citizens, from 30 thousand to 50 thousand rubles for officials and from 90 thousand to 120 thousand rubles for legal entities.
