- Three Ukrainian Armed Forces militants were sentenced to up to 17 years in prison for terrorist attacks in the Kursk region.

Three Ukrainian militants who invaded the Kursk region received from 16 to 17 years in prison for committing terrorist acts near the village of Olgovka. This is stated on June 2 in the Telegram channel of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.
As a result, the court sentenced the medical shooter Vladimir Nikolenko, the shooter Valery Meshchersky and the grenade launcher Dmitry Muntyan. They were found guilty of committing a terrorist act on the territory of the Kursk region under paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to the agency, in November 2024, Muntyan illegally crossed the border and took up a firing position near Olgovka in the Korenevsky district. He prevented the evacuation of civilians from the war zone and used weapons against Russian military personnel and civilians. He was subsequently captured.
On October 1, 2024, Meshchersky illegally invaded the Kursk region. He carried a machine gun and grenades with him. As a result, the man took up an observation position and fired at civilian infrastructure, intimidating local residents. At the same time, he did not allow civilians to evacuate. After the attack, the militant surrendered to the Russian military.
On September 28, 2024, Nikolenko, armed with F-1 grenades and an AK-74 assault rifle, illegally crossed the Russian border as part of Ukrainian armed formations in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. In Olgovka, he fired at Russian soldiers and civilians, and prevented evacuation. As a result of the fighting, the Russian military managed to detain him.
"The verdict of the court sentenced Meshchersky to 17 years in prison <...> Muntyan to 16 years <...> Nikolenko to 16 years," the publication says.
The men will serve part of their sentences in prison, while the other part will be served in a high—security penal colony.
On the same day, it was reported that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation had opened a criminal case into the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on civilian targets in Kursk. During the investigative measures, it was possible to find fragments from drones. They were sent for an explosive forensic examination.
