Over the past weekend, 622 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 68 people were killed and 784 injured. 58 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on June 2 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

So, in Mordovia, on the 77th km of the Ruzaevka - Kovylkino —Torbeevo regional highway, a 56—year-old passenger car driver did not provide an advantage in traffic at an unregulated intersection when leaving a secondary road and collided with another passenger car. After that, a passenger fell out of the car of the culprit of the accident onto the roadway, which was hit by a third passenger car.

As a result of the accident, the driver and two passengers of the first car were killed, another passenger, as well as the driver and two passengers of the car of the second participant in the accident were hospitalized with injuries.

19 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 29 more road users, including three children, needed medical help. 16 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 112 road accidents, 40 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 72 outside their area of operation, 10 pedestrians were killed, and 108 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 32 child pedestrians, 20 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

110 accidents involving minors were also registered, as a result of which 124 young road users were injured, including 55 passengers, 10 cyclists and 19 motor transport drivers. Two children were killed, one of whom was a passenger in a passenger car, the other was a motor vehicle driver.

So, in the rural area of the Perm Region in the evening, a 25-year-old female driver of a car drove off the road, after which the car overturned. A 15-year-old schoolgirl passenger died in the accident, who was in the back seat and was strapped in at the time of the accident. The driver and her two other minor passengers (girls born in 2011 and 2017), who were in the back next to the deceased and were wearing seat belts, were injured and ended up in the hospital.

Previously, the cause of the accident was a discrepancy between the speed and specific traffic conditions on a regional gravel highway. The driver's license was not previously issued to the culprit of the accident. In addition, she showed signs of intoxication: a group of young people were relaxing on the lake and were on their way to the store.

In addition, near one of the villages of the Gavrilov-Posadsky district of the Ivanovo region, a 14-year-old motorcyclist without a driver's license was riding in a field and fell from a motor vehicle. Despite the fact that the student was wearing a motorcycle helmet, he died. The preliminary cause of the accident is a lack of speed for specific traffic conditions, as well as a lack of driving skills. The teenager was at the scene with a friend in the absence of adults. The motorcycle belongs to the mother of the deceased ninth grader.

The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles. The lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department said.

"We draw the attention of parents to the administrative responsibility for providing the opportunity to drive motor vehicles for children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category. Parents need to instill discipline and responsibility in their children. Adult road users should demonstrate safe behavior on the road by their own example, and also regularly remind children of the need to strictly follow traffic rules," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

On May 29, the Ministry of Transport published a draft amendment to the rules of the road explaining the duties of drivers when approaching vehicles with special signals turned on. In the same document, the Ministry proposed introducing the concept of a "child restraint system (device)" into the traffic regulations and defining what exactly applies to these systems.
