The court sentenced the British mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 14 years in prison in absentia.

A British citizen, Gary Bonini, was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison for participating in an armed conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on June 2 in the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

"He was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")," the agency said in a Telegram channel.

It is specified that Bonini arrived in Ukraine in 2022, where he underwent military and tactical training and received weapons and military equipment. After that, he participated in combat operations against Russian military personnel.

The court sentenced the mercenary in absentia to 14 years in prison and put him on the international wanted list.

On May 19, the Moscow City Court sentenced in absentia British soldier Ariel Moshe, who fought on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, to six years in a penal colony for mercenary activities. It was clarified that the foreign citizen was a member of the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine.
