MTS presented the first Russian 5G base station "Irteya" at the All-Russian CIPR-2025 conference.

According to the company's press service, the new generation of base stations uses the OpenRAN open standards principle, in which part of the work is performed in cloud data centers, rather than directly at the station.

With OpenRAN, the cellular network is built from modules: some blocks process the signal, others control the network, and others connect it to the Internet. This approach allows operators not to depend on a single supplier and to scale the network faster.

"These stations will be the first domestic solution aimed not only at the Russian market, but also at international expansion," MTS said.

During the exhibition, an active 5G coverage area was organized, which demonstrated the maximum data transfer rate of up to 1 Gbit/s. The network operated in a mode in which one base station simultaneously served connections in the 2G, 4G and 5G (Single RAN) standards. This is made possible by a single software platform, without the need to change equipment when new communication standards are added.

The equipment of Irteya is made in Russia. The software is also being developed by domestic programmers.

According to Dmitry Lakontsev, CEO of Irtey, the product being developed is suitable for Southeast Asia, the CIS, and the Middle East. Export is "about making the equipment work immediately in any country — with familiar interfaces, clear settings and documentation in English," he said.

The company has started preliminary negotiations with customers from other countries.
