Taxi rides may rise in price by 30% due to the new law on the localization of cars for transportation. This was stated by Irina Zaripova, chairman of the Public Council for taxi development, according to the analytical agency Autostat on June 2.

As Zaripova explained, it is expensive to change cars in taxi companies, especially given the high key rate, the unavailability of preferential leases and loans, as well as rising prices for maintenance and spare parts.

Also, according to her, taxi companies expect costs for retrofitting service stations and staff training. All these factors will affect the cost of the business, and additional costs will be shifted to tariffs. If some drivers and taxi companies leave the market, then the supply will decrease, as a result, passengers will have an increased waiting time for taxi pickups and higher prices, Zaripova is sure.

Pavel Stennikov, head of the Maxim Public Relations department, said that passengers would pay for the localization of cars in taxis. He suggested that the small legal taxi market in the regions will become even smaller, and customers will begin to turn to private drivers in private cars more often.

Daniil Kurashev, Citymobil's Chief Operating Officer, noted that a sharp increase in tariffs may not occur if automakers expand the range of models suitable for new taxi requirements, as well as new government programs to subsidize the purchase of cars by taxi companies.

On May 27, it was reported that, as Irina Zaripova said, the law on establishing requirements for the localization of cars in passenger taxis may lead to an increase in demand for foreign cars. Prior to that, on May 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on localization of taxi cars. The law comes into force on March 1, 2026, but in some regions the new requirements will take effect later. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will prepare information on cars localized in Russia that meet the criteria for use in taxis by the end of 2025.
