Ex-chairman of the Bank of Israel Stanley Fischer died at the age of 81.

Stanley Fischer, the former chairman of the Bank of Israel and one of the greatest economists, has died in the United States at the age of 81. This was reported by The New York Times on June 1.

"Stanley Fischer <...> died on Saturday at his home in Lexington, Massachusetts. He was 81 years old," the article says.

The cause of death, according to his son Michael, was complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Fischer served as the head of the Bank of Israel from 2005 to 2013. He was also Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2014 to 2017 and the second most important official of the International Monetary Fund. In addition, he played a role in shaping an entire generation of economists and politicians.
