US President Donald Trump wants the conflict in Ukraine to end this year, but the Ukrainian side is against such a scenario. This was announced on June 2 by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, an American economist and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University (New York).

"A settlement can be reached this year. A settlement should be reached this year. Overall, I think Trump is interested in making this happen. But it is absolutely clear that the Ukrainian government is not interested in this," Sachs said in an interview with TASS.

He noted that many European countries and at least half of Washington are also against ending this conflict. However, these actions, in his opinion, will not help Ukraine in any way and will only "lead to even greater destruction."

Earlier in the day, Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy head of the International Committee of the Federation Council, expressed doubt that the Ukrainian side was really interested in a peaceful settlement. Nevertheless, according to Jabarov, the dialogue is likely to continue.

On May 25, the American leader said that all the statements of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, do not do his country any good. Everything he says causes problems, and it would be better for him to stop it, Trump stressed.
