Seven curly-haired pelicans, about a year old, were brought to the Moscow Zoo's Rare Species Reproduction Center. The birds are currently being quarantined, and specialists are helping them adapt to the new conditions. This was announced on Monday, June 2, on the official city portal. mos.ru .

The curly—haired pelican is one of the rarest representatives of its species, listed in the International Red Book as endangered. Its population is steadily declining, and today there are less than 20 thousand individuals in the world. The Moscow Zoo actively participates in programs for their conservation, noted on the website of the Mayor of Moscow.

They said that the body length of the curly—haired pelican reaches 180 cm, the wingspan is up to 3.5 m, and the weight is 12-13 kg. A distinctive feature of the species is the long curly feathers on its head.

The diet of these birds is based on carp, bream, perch, herring and grouper. Pelicans can consume both small and large prey weighing up to 3 kg, swallowing it whole: their digestive system can handle even bones and scales.

On June 1, the website of the Moscow City Hall announced that migratory swifts, nightingales and swallows had returned to Moscow. According to experts, the nightingale can be heard not only in parks and near reservoirs, but also in urban areas, for example, in lilac bushes in the courtyard. You can see it by its brown plumage and reddish tail.
