Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli spoke about a plan to build a city in the desert, which will receive about 7% of the annual quota of the Nile River. This was reported by Reuters on June 1, citing a statement by the Prime Minister.

"About 10 million cubic meters of water from the Nile will flow daily to the 6.8 million square meter (2.63 square mile) Jirian city west of downtown Cairo, helping to irrigate a 2.28 million acre agricultural project in the New Delta," the agency said, citing sources.

According to Madbouli, this project will be able to encourage the Egyptian authorities to cope with the growing shortage of water and electricity, as well as the deepening economic crisis, and increase the value of state assets by raising land prices.

According to the agency, the city's project includes residential units, commercial zones, a marina and a free economic zone.

Earlier, on May 9, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the possibility of increasing the tourist flow from Russia. Al-Sisi highly appreciated the strategic relations between the two states, which are based on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed back in 2018.
