Macron promised severe punishment for those who staged riots in France

French President Emmanuel Macron said on June 1 that those who rioted after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) won the Champions League final would be severely punished.

"There will be prosecution and punishment. We will be harsh," the head of state said, his speech was broadcast on the page of the Elysee Palace on the social network X.

Macron also thanked law enforcement officials and public utilities for their work.

On June 1, the newspaper Le Figaro reported that at least two people were killed and another 559 were detained in France as a result of clashes related to the celebration of the victory of the PSG team in the Champions League. A total of 192 people were injured in the country, not counting 22 police officers and seven firefighters. 68 fans were detained in Paris for rioting.
