German Foreign Minister Johann Vadeful announced the preparation of a new package of sanctions against Russia jointly with the United States. He announced this on June 1 on the ZDF TV channel.

According to Vadefulh, the sanctions will affect the energy and gas sectors.

"The European Commission has received a specific instruction. The ceiling on oil prices will be lowered, which will lead to a reduction in its cost," the Foreign Minister said.

He also noted that the first steps towards the introduction of new sanctions have already been taken.

"Tomorrow I will hold a meeting in Berlin with American Senator Lindsey Graham, who has prepared a large-scale package of sanctions, including secondary ones, which I just mentioned. Based on my conversations with [US Secretary of State] Marco Rubio, I assume that this package will be considered in the US Senate next week," Vadeful said.

Earlier, on May 27, Germany reported on the failure of negotiations between the European Union and the United States on anti-Russian sanctions. During the meeting, European Union Special Envoy for sanctions David O'Sullivan complained that there was a "complete cessation of transatlantic coordination" of measures to combat methods that violate restrictions against Russia.
