The death toll from floods in Nigeria has increased to 200

The death toll from the floods that hit the city of Mokwa in the northwestern part of Nigeria has reached at least 200 people. This was reported on June 1 by the Associated Press (AP).
"The death toll from the devastating flooding in a market town in the north-central state of Nigeria on Sunday (June 1) has risen to at least 200 people," Musa Kimboku, deputy chairman of the city government, told the agency.
Mokwa is a major trade and transportation hub where farmers from northern Nigeria sell food to merchants from the south.
At least 500 households were damaged as a result of the natural disaster. More than 3,000 people were forced to leave their homes.
Before that, in March 2025, torrential rains and floods killed more than 50 people in Bolivia. More than 370,000 families were also affected, and more than 100,000 citizens had to move. A state of emergency has been declared in the country.
