Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center, admitted that the Aurora borealis could be seen in Moscow on the night of Monday, June 2. He announced this in his Telegram channel on Sunday, June 1.

According to him, "a very strong and prolonged magnetic storm, which has been lasting for about 15 hours, can cause active and extending far to the south of the northern lights," writes the Moscow city News agency.

Leus noted that now the southern border of the zone of possible northern lights has dropped to 52 degrees north latitude, which is 250-350 km south of Moscow. If the weather is clear, it is highly likely that after dark you will be able to see the Aurora borealis, Moscow 24 notes.

Earlier on June 1, Sergey Bogachev, head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), said that a cloud of plasma ejected by the Sun during the flare reached the Earth. According to Bogachev, currently the speed of the solar wind sometimes exceeds 1 thousand km/s.

In October, the Aurora borealis could be observed throughout Russia. Then the cause of the aurora was a strong outburst caused by a 1.8X solar flare, NSN notes.
