Migratory swallows, swifts and nightingales returned to Moscow

Migratory swifts, nightingales and swallows have returned to Moscow. This was reported on the website of the Moscow City Hall on Sunday, June 1.
According to experts, the nightingale can be heard not only in parks and near reservoirs, but also in urban areas, for example, in lilac bushes in the courtyard. You can see it by its brown plumage and reddish tail. With his voice, the nightingale marks the territory, attracts the female and pleases others, the Moscow city News agency notes.
Swallows can be recognized by their characteristic forked tail and high flight speed, which is about 60 km/h. They spend most of their time in the air. In the capital, you can find three species of these birds: a funnel, a killer whale and a shorebird. All of them are listed in the Red Book of Moscow.
There is also a black swift in the capital. These birds create colonies under the roofs of buildings and actively fly around the city. They are larger than swallows, they appear black, although there are gray shades in the plumage. Unlike the swallow, the swift does not perch on branches and wires, but spends almost all its time in the air, Moscow 24 reports.
The Department of Environmental Management asks not to disturb the birds during the breeding season, the website writes kp.ru .
In April, residents of the capital were urged not to feed the ducks. According to experts, the annual feeding of birds should be stopped with the arrival of stable plus temperatures. Excessive care can harm both the birds themselves and their future brood. As of February 2025, there were 5.5 thousand ducks in Moscow. Most often they can be found in the city parks Kuzminki-Lyublino and Ostankino, as well as in the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve.
In March, the first rooks were spotted in the Moscow region. In the old days, upon the return of these birds, the beginning of field work was determined, notes 360.ru .
