Two large-scale events in the field of sports medicine were held in Sochi and St. Petersburg under the auspices of the scientific and educational Institute "MMC" - the XII International Scientific and practical conference named after A.V. Zimin and the "SPORTS Medical Forum-2025". More than a thousand doctors and experts from Russia and foreign countries took part in them, which made this event the largest in terms of geography in the Russian Federation.

According to Maria Vladimirovna Fomina, director of the MMC Scientific and Educational Institute, continuous training and the creation of a scientific and practical environment for doctors are the key to developing the quality of medical care today. She noted that for the first time in Russia, a scientific and practical forum of a new format was held, bringing together the country's leading experts, KHL doctors, traumatologists and rehabilitologists, representatives of sports federations and athletes themselves.

Specialists conducted master classes on pain management, sports cardiology, anti-doping control and analysis of complex cases at the sites of Sirius University and Sports Medical Clinic.

Askhab Hajiyev, head of the KHL Medical Department, stressed that the purpose of the forum is to bring together experts to discuss new strategies for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of athletes. He said that the KHL has developed unique rehabilitation protocols that will allow players to return to the sport faster.

"This scale of the event allowed us to bring together both experienced, highly qualified doctors and novice specialists, experts not only from the world of hockey, but also from other sports. <...> Our common, key task is to provide effective rehabilitation that allows athletes to recover from injury as quickly and efficiently as possible," — Gadzhiyev noted.

Gennady Zagorodny, scientific director of the Sochi Forum and Deputy Chief Physician for Sports Medicine at the Sports Medical Clinic, added that despite the rivalry between the clubs, experience exchange and collegial cooperation are important in sports medicine. Often, when injured on the road, the team doctor has no one to turn to, except colleagues from the opposing club and the leadership of the KHL or RFU. Therefore, doctors are interested in sharing experiences, establishing relationships and mutual assistance.

In St. Petersburg, the forum participants discussed innovations in traumatology, as well as the shortage of nursing staff, which negatively affects the quality of care. Dmitry Savitsky, PhD, Scientific director of the SPORTS Medical Forum in St. Petersburg, head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics at the MMC clinic on Malaya Konyushennaya, emphasized that the success of any operation depends on the preparation for rehabilitation and high-quality care of nurses and brothers.

The forum ended on the eve of the International Children's Day, at the site of the high-tech clinic "Beloostrov" in the Leningrad region, where a special event of the forum "Health. Sport. The future: dialogue for the sake of security." The participants were young athletes and their parents, coaches and representatives of sports schools and federations of the Northwestern Federal District. They were told about the rules of first aid, introduced to the work of the inpatient emergency department of the Beloostrov clinic and presented methods of injury prevention.

"There are even more health risks in professional sports, and there's nowhere without injury. And adults should be very attentive to any disturbing "beacons" from children in order to protect them from potential serious consequences in the future," said Larisa Kuklina, an international master of sports and member of the Russian national biathlon team.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the establishment of the national Center for Sports Medicine in Russia. The relevant document was published on May 5 on the official Internet portal of legal information. The main functions of the medical institution are to strengthen the health of athletes, medical and biological support for training camps, field research and personnel development in sports medicine.
