Russian President Vladimir Putin has made it clear to the West that the Ukrainian conflict will be ended on his terms. This was reported by the Associated Press on June 1.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin is sending a clear signal: he will accept only a settlement on his own terms <...>," the publication says.

In addition, according to the AP, the Russian leader will continue fighting until his conditions are fulfilled. At the same time, Russia is demonstrating its readiness for peace talks and is "trying not to provoke" US President Donald Trump.

On May 30, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian delegation would be ready for direct talks with Ukraine on June 2 in Istanbul.

Prior to that, on May 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was ready to submit a memorandum to Ukraine during the second round of negotiations. He expressed the hope that all parties interested in the success of the peace process would provide support for a new round of discussions.
