- In Bulgaria, protesters against the change of currency to the euro fear a sharp rise in prices

The protesters against the change of the national currency (the Bulgarian leva) are afraid of a sharp rise in prices due to the introduction of the euro. This was reported on May 31 by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
According to BNR information, thousands of people came out to protest not only in the capital, but also in a number of cities of the country. According to the organizers of the demonstration from the Vozrozhdenie Party and non-governmental organizations, they intend to demonstrate public disagreement with the plan to replace the left with a single European currency.
"According to them, Bulgaria is not ready for the introduction of the euro and does not have protective mechanisms against impoverishment and price spikes," the article says.
The protesters demanded a referendum on the country's accession to the eurozone.
The start of protests in Bulgaria against the introduction of the euro became known earlier that day. Protesters briefly blocked key intersections, while police blocked off parts of the city center to ensure peaceful demonstrations.
