Turkey urges not to allow EU to attend talks in Istanbul

Representatives of the European Union (EU) should not be allowed to attend the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine scheduled in Istanbul. This was reported on June 1 by the Turkish newspaper Aydinlik Gazetesi.
The authors of the publication point to the experience of the previous Istanbul talks, when Boris Johnson, who held the post of British Prime Minister at the time, urged Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky not to agree to the terms of a peaceful settlement.
"This should not happen during these negotiations. Turkey should insist on peace here and not allow the Europeans who want Ukraine to continue the conflict," the newspaper reports.
On May 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was ready to present a memorandum to Ukraine during the second round of negotiations. He expressed the hope that all parties interested in the success of the peace process would provide support for a new round of discussions.
On May 30, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope for a path to peace after the second round of negotiations on Ukraine.
