The bulk carrier Meshka, registered under the Panamanian flag, ran aground off the coast of Sweden. The ship was heading to the port of Vysotsk, located in the Leningrad region. This was reported on May 31 by the SVT TV channel.

It is specified that the incident occurred after the ship received a warning about the wrong course. The crew promised to change direction, but for unknown reasons continued to move.

According to preliminary data, there are 24 people and about 938 thousand liters of oil on board the bulk carrier. No leaks were recorded as a result of the incident.

"We will question the crew and try to find out the reason for the stranding," Coast Guard spokesman Waldemar Lindekrantz said.

According to the Vessel Finder service, the bulk carrier was built in 2011, its length is 180 m. The vessel has changed its registration several times, sailing under the flags of the Marshall Islands, Liberia and Barbados.

On February 8, a foreign cargo ship ran aground in the Nevelsky district of the Sakhalin Region. There were 20 crew members on board the ship.

As the Izvestia interlocutor noted, the cargo ship did not send a distress signal. The head of the region, Valery Limarenko, said that adverse weather conditions prevented rescue services from approaching him.
