Kharkiv publishing house destroyed 30,000 books by American writer Sophie Lark because of the alleged "Romanticization of Russia." This was reported on May 31 by the Ukrainian online publication Strana.ua" with reference to the press service of the publishing house "Family Leisure Club".

"We have decided to destroy the circulation of 30,000 copies and terminate the contract for all six books in the series. We admit our mistake when concluding the contract with the author," the press service said.

The day before, the publisher was criticized on social media for publishing Lark's book "The Brutal Prince." Users wrote that the author "romanticizes the Russian mafia."

"An American writer called Crimea Russian. <...> Also in one of the books there is a heroine, a resident of Lviv, Elena Zelenskaya, who seeks to leave Ukraine to marry a foreigner. The heroine believes that Ukrainian men are rude, and cities "stink of diesel and are generally full of horror," the Ukrainian publication clarified.

On April 4, the head of the Verkhovna Rada's Education Committee, Sergei Babak, said that it was impossible to ban the Russian language in Ukrainian schools, as it violated the norms of the European Union (EU). He noted that such a ban could be perceived as a discriminatory measure, which would negatively affect the country's accession process.
