- The German Foreign Minister stated that there was no goal to achieve the defeat of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

Germany is no longer seeking the complete defeat of Russia in the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 30 by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl.
"Total defeat <...> Of Russia <...> I didn't have to expect it. In this regard, we have now become a little more honest," he said in an interview with the newspaper.
According to Vadefoul, Ukraine's Western allies are now working to strengthen its position in negotiations with Russia. The Minister expressed confidence that the Ukrainian conflict would end through dialogue.
The minister also answered a question about whether Germany is in a state of hybrid war with Russia, saying that there is no "clear peace" between the countries.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on May 26 that Germany, along with Britain, France and the United States, had lifted range restrictions on military supplies to Ukraine. However, later in the day, Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil noted that Germany, contrary to the Chancellor's statement, had not changed its position on arms supplies to Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on May 28 that statements by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the supply of long-range weapons to Kiev and financing the production of missiles in Ukraine indicate that Germany is on its way to collapse. He also noted that Germany's direct involvement in the armed conflict is already obvious.
