The Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation on Saturday, May 31, opened a case of a terrorist attack on the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Rylsky and Lgovsky districts of the Kursk region, which injured civilians.

"At night today, militants of the armed formations of Ukraine, using unmanned aerial vehicles of an airplane type, carried out a massive attack on the cities of Rylsk in the Rylsky district and Artakovo in the Lgovsky district of the Kursk region," the department's Telegram channel reported.

Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged as a result of the attack. In addition, civilians, including children, were injured. Their exact number is being specified.

The criminal case was initiated on the grounds of a crime under paragraphs "a", "b", part 2 of art. 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). The persons involved in the attack are being identified.

Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor of the Kursk region, said on the same day that the number of victims had increased to 14 as a result of an attack by Ukrainian Armed Forces drones in the Rylsky and Lgovsky districts. He also said that in Rylsk, drones hit two five—story buildings: an apartment caught fire in one of them, the flames spread to the balconies, and in the second, the fire started on the third floor. In the Lgovsky district, two buildings and a garage caught fire due to a drone attack. The fires were quickly extinguished.
