The annual shutdown of hot water in homes from May to September is necessary for inspections and repairs of pipelines, said Sergei Kolunov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, on May 31.

"In our weather conditions, water is supplied under high pressure to maintain the hot water temperature in the pipes. This quickly leads to wear and deformation of pipelines. In order to avoid accidents and ensure the reliability of the communal infrastructure, inspections and repairs are carried out systematically. They are carried out when the pipes are free of water," Kolunov told RIA Novosti.

According to the parliamentarian, summer is the best period for diagnosis and work, as the shutdown of boiler houses does not significantly affect the quality of life of the population.

In mid-April, Alexey Yeresko, Deputy head of the Ministry of Construction, told Izvestia that in the process of updating utility networks, the duration of the summer shutdown of boilers is shortened. However, according to him, it is impractical to reduce the stoppage of hot water supply to apartments from the established 10 days to seven.
