More than half of Russians regularly buy Asian food


54% of Russians regularly eat and buy Asian products. This was reported on May 31 by Gazeta.Ru" with reference to a study by the Fix Price store chain and the ROMIR Human Institute.
"Young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are particularly attracted to Asian products — this figure reaches 62% among this category of respondents. The older generation shows less interest: 53% of Russians aged 55 to 64 choose Asian cuisine," the publication says.
A third of the respondents (33%) are ready to allocate up to 2 thousand rubles per month for such purchases. Young people tend to spend more, while representatives of older generations are often limited to 500 rubles.
Unusual taste combinations of Asian products have become the most popular reason for the love of such food for 56% of respondents. For 40%, the main reason for their interest in Asian products was their sharpness.
"71% of Russians prefer to eat Asian food in company, most often with friends or family. 55% of respondents (especially those aged 18 to 24) read reviews about Asian products before buying them," the publication clarifies.
1.5 thousand respondents participated in the study.
In January 2025, the head of the State Duma Committee on Regional Policy, Alexei Didenko, proposed introducing GOST on rolls and sushi. In a document that Izvestia has, he points out that in recent years sushi and rolls have become an integral part of the Russian catering market. According to him, the facts of mass poisoning are of particular concern, caused by non-compliance with sanitary standards, the use of substandard ingredients and the lack of proper control over the cooking process.
