The US Pentagon on Friday, May 30, announced the conclusion of a contract with NorthStar Maritime Dismantling Services LLC in the amount of $536 million for the disposal of the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise (CVN-65).

"Under this contract, CVN-65 will be completely dismantled, and all materials received will be properly recycled or disposed of," the ministry said in a statement.

At the same time, hazardous materials, including low-level radioactive waste, will be packaged and safely transported for disposal at authorized licensed facilities, the document says. The work will take place in Alabama and will be completed by November 2029.

Earlier, on May 7, CNN reported on the fall of another F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter from the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman into the Red Sea. It was noted that the causes of the crash have not yet been determined. The pilot managed to eject, but received minor injuries.
