The Russian market of plant-based beverages may show an increase of up to 90% by 2030. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Health & Nutrition (formerly Danone Russia) told Izvestia about this on Saturday, May 31. Ruslan Alisultanov.

"In 2024, the volume of the Russian market for plant-based alternatives to traditional dairy products, according to the research company NTech, amounted to 21.1 billion rubles, with an increase of 27.7% compared to the previous year. Even with a moderate slowdown, the market could almost double by 2030, reaching 40 billion rubles. This is not explosive, but steady growth," he explained, commenting on the market prospects on World Milk Day.

According to him, herbal products remain more of a niche story, but the drivers of their popularity growth are technological development, changing consumer habits and the demand for individualized nutrition. The dynamics are particularly noticeable in large cities and among young people.

"The growth is not due to the replacement of traditional milk, but due to the expansion of the product range and new consumption patterns," he added.

The expert also noted that Russian manufacturers, including Health & Nutrition, are gradually localizing key components, including plant raw materials and packaging, as well as investing in the creation of new capacities.

Earlier, on March 11, the Ministry of Agriculture reported an increase in dairy production. In January, the production of drinking milk amounted to 527 thousand tons, which is 4.8% more than in the same period last year. Positive dynamics is also observed in other categories of dairy products. The production of fermented dairy products increased by 3.9% (to 229 thousand tons), cheeses — by 0.9% (68.1 thousand tons), yoghurts — by 8.6% (67 thousand tons), cottage cheese — by 3.9% (40 thousand tons), cream — by 3.3% (29 thousand tons), ice cream — by 8.7% (28 thousand tons).
