Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes that the second round of talks in Istanbul on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine will pave the way for peace. This was announced on May 30 by the office of the Turkish leader. This was reported by the Anadolu agency on May 30.
"Erdogan said that discussing a possible ceasefire during the second round of talks, which is scheduled to take place in Istanbul, will pave the way for peace," the publication says.
It is also specified that the Turkish side will make efforts to ensure "a just and lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia."
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian delegation would be ready for direct talks with Ukraine on June 2 in Istanbul.
On May 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was ready to present a memorandum to Ukraine during the second round of negotiations. He expressed the hope that all parties interested in the success of the peace process would provide support for a new round of discussions.
