A man with a hammer attacked a synagogue in Sochi

A man armed with a hammer attacked a synagogue in Sochi. This was announced on May 30 in the press service of the Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar.
"At about 3:45 p.m. on May 29, an unidentified man arrived at the synagogue building by taxi. After getting out of the car, he took a hammer out of his backpack and, threatening the guard, tried to enter the building. At that time, a children's club was taking place in the synagogue," said a spokesman, quoted by TASS.
It is reported that an unknown person broke down the gate with hammer blows and kicks, but the attacker did not manage to get into the synagogue. According to the representative, the attacker threw stones towards the building and filmed what was happening on his phone before the arrival of law enforcement officers.
According to the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Krasnodar Territory, the attacker was detained. He turned out to be a 39-year-old resident of Yessentuki, who had previously been registered at a neuropsychiatric dispensary.
"As a result of the incident, no one was injured. An inspection is being conducted, according to the results of which a legal procedural decision will be made," the department said.
Earlier that day, in the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Yekaterinburg, a man attacked teenagers on a playground with a knife. A criminal case has been opened into the incident on the grounds of a crime under Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Hooliganism").
