- Open meetings with writers and actors will be held in Moscow as part of the Book in the City project.
On June 1, unique spaces will open in the capital as part of a new project — "Book in the City". At three venues — on Sretensky Boulevard, at Vitali Fountain on Theater Square and in Pushkin Square — Muscovites and guests of the capital will be able to take a book for free, read in a cozy atmosphere, as well as take part in various cultural events, get an autograph of their favorite writer and chat with like-minded people. The organizer of the project is the Moscow City Department of Culture.
"Book in the City" is an open—air library where reading turns into a form of dialogue. Hundreds of cultural events and creative activities are planned — live readings, autograph sessions, book presentations by contemporary writers, creative workshops and much more," said Alexei Fursin, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Moscow Department of Culture.
For example, on Children's Day, on June 1, a creative meeting with Ekaterina Tereshina, the author of the book "Duska Stories," will take place in Pushkin Square. Guests will be able to listen to funny stories from the life of Dusi the pug dog and her friends and get an autograph of the writer.
On June 5, theater and film actor Anton Shagin will hold a presentation of his book "Pedometer" at the site near the Vitali Fountain, and in the evening of the same day, People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Steklov will read fragments from his favorite works by Russian authors on Sretensky Boulevard.
On June 6, theater and film actress Valeria Lanskaya is arranging a meeting for Pushkin's fans at the Vitali Fountain. Also in the first weeks of June, guests of the Book in the City project will be able to chat with theater and film actor Ivan Stebunov, millionaire blogger Andrey Kurochkin, bestselling author, including "The Legendary Brother's Sweater and other knitted clothes in the style of a cult film" and other culturally famous people. Autograph sessions are scheduled at the end of each creative meeting.
The sites will be open until September 7, 2025, every day except Mondays. The morning hours (12:00-14:00) are dedicated to the young guests. They will enjoy reading aloud and theatrical readings, getting to know the authors, as well as various workshops and favorite fairy tales on vinyl records.
In the afternoon (16:00-19:00) and in the evening (19:00-21:00), the playgrounds will become a place of intellectual discoveries. These are not only various literary readings and direct communication with modern writers and poets, but also intellectual games and non-classical lectures with interactive content.
Books for the project are provided by libraries in Moscow. Those who wish will also be able to issue a single reader's ticket directly at the sites. In addition, it will be possible to buy a book for yourself or as a gift on Sretensky Boulevard and in Pushkin Square — this opportunity is provided by the Moscow House of Books.
The Book in the City sites will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 22:00. Information about registration for events can be found on the website of the Knigavgorod project.RF
