HC Torpedo announced the appointment of Isakov as head coach

Nizhny Novgorod Hockey Club Torpedo announced the appointment of Alexey Isakov as the head coach of the team. This was announced on Friday, May 30, on the club's website.

"Alexey Gennadievich Isakov has become the new head coach of Torpedo, a mentor whose name is associated with the recent high—profile successes of Nizhny Novgorod hockey and whose professional biography is a vivid confirmation of our club's philosophy," the statement said.

It is reported that before being appointed head coach, Isakov worked for two seasons in the club's system.

In the 2024/25 season, the specialist headed Torpedo-Gorky, the Torpedo farm club. Under his leadership, the team won the All-Russian Hockey League (VHL), adds Sport-Express.

Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin noted that Isakov's appointment shows that not only players, but also coaches can develop and realize career prospects in the Torpedo system.

"Isakov has proved that he is able to build effective, attacking and smart hockey, bringing together young and experienced players into a single fighting team," Nikitin added.

The club clarified that additional appointments to the coaching staff of the team will be announced.

Mikhail Evraev, Governor of the Yaroslavl Region, spoke about Lokomotiv's triumph in the KHL playoffs, the local arena and the club's president, Yuri Yakovlev.

On May 29, the Lokomotiv hockey club beat Traktor Chelyabinsk in the fifth match of the KHL final playoff series and won the Gagarin Cup for the first time in history. As a result of the match, the score in the series became 4:1 in favor of Lokomotiv. Last season, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl had to lose to Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the final of the tournament.
