On Friday and next weekend, from May 30 to June 1, the State Traffic Inspectorate will conduct massive and continuous checks of drivers, special attention will be paid to preventing drunk driving. The upcoming raids were announced by the regional departments of the department.

Traffic police will carry out preventive measures on roads in Sevastopol, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, the Republic of Chuvashia, Ulyanovsk, Penza, Ivanovo, Ryazan, Kirov, Samara, Smolensk and Kurgan regions, as well as in other regions of the country.

"Before the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate traditionally reminds motorists about the inadmissibility of driving under the influence of alcohol and warns about responsibility for driving under the influence. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who have got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out by traffic inspectors on an ongoing basis," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

According to current legislation, driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing to undergo a medical examination, provides for the deprivation of a driver's license for 1.5–2 years and a heavy fine. Those who got behind the wheel drunk, having already been deprived of their rights, are already facing criminal liability, the Traffic police reminded.

"If you see that a drunk person is driving, the driver of the vehicle is behaving inappropriately on the road, creating dangerous situations, do not be indifferent: report this to the police. Thus, you can save someone's life," Anton Belan noted.

He stressed that the staff of the State Traffic Inspectorate will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such messages.

The day before, it was reported that the Ministry of Transport published a draft amendment to the rules of the road, explaining the duties of drivers when approaching vehicles with special signals turned on. In the same document, the Ministry proposed introducing the concept of a "child restraint system (device)" into the traffic regulations and defining what exactly applies to these systems.
