Soviet intelligence officer Gennady Yushkevich died at the age of 98.


Gennady Yushkevich, a Soviet intelligence officer and a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, died at the age of 98. This was announced on May 30 by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus.
"The Board of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus expresses its condolences to the family and friends of the Great Patriotic War veteran Gennady Vladimirovich Yushkevich in connection with his death," the message on the Telegram channel reads.
During the Great Patriotic War, at the age of 14, he became a member of the Chaika guerrilla sabotage and reconnaissance group, and two years later he became a fighter of the Jack reconnaissance group of the 3rd Belorussian Front. In addition, he participated in the battles for East Prussia and was awarded the Orders of the Patriotic War I and II degrees, the Order of Glory III degree.
In 2010, Yushkevich was enlisted in the ranks of honorary soldiers of the fifth separate brigade of special forces. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, until recent days he took part in patriotic events, demonstrating "the strength of the spirit of a true patriot."
