The trusting relationship that was built by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin should not be wasted. This was announced on May 30 by the widow of the former head of the Japanese government, Akie Abe.

"There are different opinions, but I don't want the trusting relationship that my husband built with President Putin during 27 meetings to go to waste," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

She also expressed the hope that cultural exchanges between the two countries will continue.

Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, announced the meeting between Akie Abe and Putin in the Kremlin on May 29. During the official event, the Russian leader recalled Shinzo Abe's desire to restore relations between Russia and Japan.
