Fetisov called the situation with the rating of the Russian national hockey team a mockery.

The leadership of the Russian national team in the ranking of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is a mockery from the West. This was announced on May 30 by two-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov.

According to him, the current rating does not bring the team any medals or victories. Fetisov said that in his time, when the national team showed outstanding results, there was no rating system.

"We just beat everyone," he said in an interview with TASS.

IIHF President Luc Tardif said on May 25 that the Russian national ice hockey team would not be allowed to participate in the 2026 Olympic tournament. According to Tardif, the organization also wants the IOC to officially announce this decision.

Later, on May 26, it became known that the Russian national ice hockey team would top the IIHF ranking based on the results of the World Championships in Sweden and Denmark, while the U.S. national team, which won the World Championship for the first time since 1960, would take second place.
