A criminal case has been opened in Primorsky Krai over the death of a worker as a result of an excavator hitting a construction site. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

The tragedy occurred on Thursday, May 29, on the territory of the future 500 kV Varyag substation, which is being built in the village of Novonezhino in the Shkot district. The excavator driver was not convinced of the safety of the maneuver and ran over the worker.

The man received various injuries, from which he died in an ambulance, writes IA PrimaMedia.

The investigative authorities have already opened a criminal case on the incident under Part 2 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of safety rules during construction work, resulting in the death of a person by negligence." His investigation is under control of the prosecutor's office.

The case was initiated based on the materials of an inspection conducted by the supervisory authority. Now the prosecutor's office intends to check compliance with the requirements of labor protection legislation from both the contractor and the customer. She also monitors the progress and results of the inspection organized by the State Labor Inspectorate.
