- Peskov said that the forces in Japan are in favor of restoring relations with the Russian Federation.

There are still forces in Japan that advocate the restoration of relations with Russia. This was announced on May 30 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the widow of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Akie.
According to him, Akie Abe is an important figure because her husband Shinzo has made significant efforts to establish bilateral relations with the Russian state. Putin also had a very constructive and warm relationship with the former prime minister.
"Unfortunately, the current Japanese authorities have chosen the path of confrontation with our country. They have joined all illegal sanctions and restrictions against Russia. Thus, they took an unfriendly position. At the same time, there are forces in Japan that consider such a position short—sighted," Peskov said at a briefing.
In addition, the Kremlin's official representative added, these forces are in favor of restoring dialogue and improving relations between the countries.
Putin met with Akie Abe on May 29 in the Kremlin. During the official event, the Russian leader recalled the desire of her husband Shinzo Abe to restore relations between Russia and Japan. According to him, the former prime minister continued the tradition of his family, as his father, who was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, adhered to the same position.
