Moscow is pleased that Washington understands Russian President Vladimir Putin's explanations about the inadmissibility of NATO expansion to the borders of the Russian Federation. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on May 30.

"President Putin has consistently conveyed to his interlocutors, including American representatives, our position on the unacceptable expansion of NATO to the east in terms of Russia's strategic interests," Peskov said.

He also added that if we talk about such subtle nuances of this topic, the Kremlin would not like to discuss them publicly and would not like to exchange any positions through the media.

"We consider it necessary to do this during closed contacts," concluded the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.

On May 29, the US Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said that NATO could stop expanding to Russia's borders. According to him, US President Donald Trump is able to make the appropriate decision.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Western countries continue to step up provocative military exercises near Russian territory.
