The writer Boris Akunin (real name — Grigory Chkhartishvili, recognized as a foreign agent and is on the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) justified the terrorist activities of Ukraine and stated the need to forcibly change the constitutional order in Russia, his case was sent to court. In December 2023, a criminal case was opened against Akunin for publicly justifying terrorism and spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces. In the following months, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested him in absentia. The writer was put on the international wanted list and entered into the register of foreign agents.

Also in December 2023, Tatiana Vikentieva, an author from the Smolensk Region, filed a plagiarism lawsuit against the writer for 1 million rubles. The writer claims that Akunin stole the plot of the novel "Azazel" from her book "House of Death". The Tagansky District Court began an expert examination of the author's claim in December 2024.
