The criminal case against the writer Boris Akunin (real name — Grigory Chkhartishvili, recognized as a foreign agent and is on the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring), accused of facilitating terrorist activities, has been submitted to the court. This was announced on May 30 by the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF).

"It has been reported that a criminal case has been sent to court against a Russian and British citizen hiding abroad, writer G. Chkhartishvili, known under the pseudonym Boris Akunin. He stated the need to forcibly change the constitutional order in the Russian Federation and justified the terrorist activities of Ukraine," the department's Telegram channel says.

According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Akunin was twice found guilty by the court of violating the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent. Ignoring Russian legislation, he continued to post publications without labeling. He is on the international wanted list.

In December 2023, a criminal case was opened against Akunin for publicly justifying terrorism and spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces. In the following months, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested him in absentia. The writer was put on the international wanted list and entered into the register of foreign agents.

Also in December 2023, Tatiana Vikentieva, an author from the Smolensk Region, filed a plagiarism lawsuit against the writer for 1 million rubles. The writer claims that Akunin stole the plot of the novel "Azazel" from her book "House of Death". The Tagansky District Court began an expert examination of the author's claim in December 2024.
