- Kyodo pointed to the improvement of relations between Russia and Japan against the background of the meeting between Putin and Akie Abe

The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the wife of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe speaks to the improvement of relations between the two countries. This was reported on May 30 by the Kyodo news agency.
"[Putin's] meeting with Akie may also be a signal of improved relations," the publication says.
The meeting that took place earlier, on May 29, in the Kremlin was announced by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia.
During the official event, the Russian leader also recalled Shinzo Abe's desire to restore relations between Russia and Japan. According to him, the former prime minister continued the tradition of his family, as his father, who was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, adhered to the same position.
