Unknown persons carried out a terrorist attack on the Bicentenario oil pipeline in the Colombian department of Arauca. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on Friday, May 30.

"Pumping through the Colombian Bicentenario pipeline was suspended after an explosive attack <...> The attack was carried out by an unknown group. Pipeline explosions are common in Colombia and are often carried out by rebel groups," the agency said in a statement.

Cenit, the company that owns the pipeline, did not specify exactly when the attack took place, but added that it was cooperating with emergency authorities and the army to clear the area.

Earlier, on March 21, in Colombia, rebels tried to undermine the Cenit oil pipeline. At the same time, Cenit, a subsidiary of Ecopetrol Group, clarified that as a result of the attempted explosion, the pipeline structure "did not lose its tightness." In this regard, the protocol of the action plan was activated in case depressurization does occur.

On February 19, unidentified people threw an explosive device at a group of people in the center of Colombia's capital Bogota, killing one person and injuring seven others. It is noted that the authorities are already investigating. Presumably, the reason could be the settling of accounts between criminal gangs. Last October, the newspaper El Tiempo reported on the explosion in Colombia's El Plateado.
